Wake me up when September ends, right? We won’t sugar coat it, the start of a new school year can be nerve wracking, whether you’re entering a new grade in primary/secondary school or a new year in your undergraduate or postgraduate journey.
Most of us think of September as the end of happiness (or at least I do). We feel like we’re forced to leave behind the freedom and fun of summer break, for colder weather and a strict schedule of heavy learning. The change can be very anxiety inducing, and frankly overwhelming, but approaching it with positive intentions before it begins can help set up your success for the school year.
Here are 5 tips to get ahead of the school scaries, and make it through the next school year with confidence and sukoon:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes the path to Paradise easy for him.” — Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2646
Now say Bismillah as you head into this new school year with confidence! Most importantly, know that Sakeenah is always there rooting for you.

Sakeenah Canada, a national charitable organization, was founded in 2018 in response to a gap in culturally and religiously sensitive services available for women and children facing domestic violence and homelessness. Since then, our services have expanded to include mental health therapy and counseling. Sakeenah has also started The People’s Market, a food program that helps combat food insecurity, and has become the first licensed foster care agency for Muslim children in all of North America. We currently operate 8 transitional homes across Canada: Toronto, Brampton, Milton, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Regina, in addition to the first long-term housing program for Muslim women and children in Canada, in Windsor.
